TEDX Team Introduction

Hi, I’m Karen Hochberg. I continue to be an avid fan of the TED Talks since they debuted. I attended the first TEDxCMU and look forward to helping to shape the 2010 event. I hope to bring my marketing skills to help our team grow the local TEDX event. I believe TED ideas are worth spreading. My goals this week is to make a list of marketing ideas we can dicuss at our first meeting. See you this Saturday.

Hey there everyone, my name’s Brian Rangell.  I was the stage manager of TEDxCMU 2010 and I’m incredibly excited this year to help make Carnegie Mellon University a forum for interdisciplinary thought.  As a theatre technician, I’m always looking for the intersect between the arts and technology.  Left brain and right brain, right?  I’ll finish my first post here with a video that illustrates to me the spirit of TED: it’s poignant, artistic, and intelligent.  Enjoy.

Hi everyone, Rahul Pandey here! This is my first year at Carnegie Mellon as a graduate student at Heinz. As a devout follower of TED Talks, I love the idea of shared learning, intellectual debate and, as Brian aptly puts it, of interdisciplinary thought. Needless to say, TEDxCMU was one of the first places I sought out when I joined CMU. I am excited to be a part of the incredibly dynamic TEDxCMU 2010 Team! Event Logistics is going to be my domain and having handled other events in the past, I am here to deliver my best and have fun! Looking forward to meeting the team this Saturday.

Join TEDxCMU (TEDxChange) 2010 Organizing Team

Hey, it’s Yongho here.

We are launching a simulcast of TEDxChange at Carnegie Mellon University on September 20, 2010. We are looking for self-driven, ambitious, and passionate members to join our organizing team. (learn more about TEDxChange here)

This program is for you if:

  • You want to work on an area of event planning, budgeting, marketing, content planning (and more) that YOU are most interested in
  • You want to work with amazing team members working to launch the best TEDxChange simulcast in the world
  • You love thinking of bold new ideas and seeing them come true
  • You want to work with a small core team that actually gets massive things done without being slowed down by bureaucracy

This program is not for you if:

  • You are not interested in TED
  • You are looking for something to put on your resume
  • You like working with people who wish other people did their work for them
  • You want to join “just a random” student organization
  • You like having people tell you what to do, and spending hours on meetings that don’t go anywhere

Join the organizing team: email me at yongho@tedxcmu.com by THIS Wednesday, August 25 with your short (short!) answer to the question:

Why should you be on the TEDxCMU organizing team?

Thanks, I will talk with you soon!

Special bonus just for TEDxCMU fans!

Fellow TEDx fans, if you haven’t heard already, there’s another event happening this week: TEDxUniPittsburgh. The events aims to share ideas among the various universities in Pittsburgh. Although they have closed official ticket registration, they have agreed to offer 10 tickets just for TEDxCMU fans! Read on to find out how and I hope to see you all there!

Hello from TEDxUniPittsburgh!

We’re excited about our event coming up this weekend at CMU’s ETC. Our theme is EXPERIENCE. The day will be full of great talks and fun surprises. We’ll be having dancers from Attack Theatre, talks from Jesse Schell (whose DICE Conference talk was recently featured on TED.com) and Marek Michalowski (a roboticist known for his robot Keepon), and even a one-act play by local playwright Tammy Ryan.

Our official ticket registration has closed but to say thanks to TEDxCMU for helping us organize our event we’ve added a special bonus question to our waitlist form. The first ten people to answer the question correctly will receive a ticket to TEDxUniPittsburgh.

We’ve done our best to create a memorable experience for all of our guests. Hopefully you can join us. Thanks for all your support.

Freddie Sulit (Organizer)

Thank You CMU!

TEDxCMU would not have happened without the help of the very generous staff at Carnegie Mellon University. As a new organization, it was challenging for us to launch this event and get all the resources we needed.

We’ve definitely had our highs and lows, and have worked closely with Carnegie Mellon University these past few months to make our event successful. We are grateful to have TEDxCMU be a featured story on their homepage and look forward for more ways we can work together in the future!

TEDxCMU will go live tomorrow starting 10:00am EST. Check out our schedule and be sure to view our free livestream!

Live Stream Updates

These last few days leading up to TEDxCMU have been very eventful – we’re touched by the help, support and feedback that we’ve received from everyone and want to say thank you! For all those who plan to tune in to the livestream, we’ve been working with cmuTV and ABTech to set the equipment up, so be sure to tune in to http://www.tedxcmu.com/watch on April 4th, 2008 at 10am EST. To make this an engaging community experience, we’re working with LiveFyre, a California based startup that’s building a live conversation platform.

This ‘fyre’ will be embedded on our site as well as on livefyre.com and will allow viewers to discuss the event and get updates in real-time from the team. This is spanking new technology, and we’re excited that we’re going to be able to showcase some features to viewers before they are publicly available.

Just based on the number of ticket requests we’ve received, and the press coverage thanks to TED and CMU we’re expecting a ton of viewers. Rest assured, we’ve been stress testing our servers and equipment to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day of the event.

If you haven’t already, please follow us on twitter, friend us on facebook and most importantly – tell your friends to tune in!

Sign Up For Special Buffet Catering!

Our event is coming up soon! Because it is Easter Sunday, there will be very limited dining options available within our Carnegie Mellon University campus. To make sure you’re not hungry, we brought in special food catering!

If you attend our lunch, you will have access to a buffet with choice of chicken, beef, vegetarian entrees, pasta, salad, dessert, and a beverage. You will also have a chance to sit in a table with one of the speakers or performers.

Lunch buffet tickets are $15.99 if you buy now, or $18.99 if you buy at the door. We have limited seats available for lunch, so we highly recommend that you buy a lunch buffet ticket now. You can buy your lunch ticket at https://tedxfood.heroku.com/.

Dining venues are very limited for the holiday weekend, and joining our lunch buffet is a great way to not worry about food for the event and mingle with fellow speakers and attendees. Plus you’ll get great food thanks to The Common Plea!

To secure your lunch seat, buy your lunch ticket now by signing up at https://tedxfood.heroku.com/. Thanks!

Sponsorship Update: Bronze Level

We’re still looking for a few sponsors to help cover event costs, and are offering a new Bronze Level of sponsorship for interested organizations. A $100 sponsorship will go a long way in helping us cover stage and administrative costs and provide a TED-like experience to all attendees. We will place your logo on our website and thank you on stage as well as offer a ticket to the event. If you’re interested please fill out the following form:
